Mavi Takes NY

In the vibrant heart of New York City, I recently had the incredible opportunity to represent LIV and attend a collaborative songwriting camp hosted by 2915 Entertainment in collaboration with Troy Taylor University. This camp was an immersive experience that blended education, collaboration, innovation and of course, famous NYC street food. What made it truly exceptional, was the knowledge given to us by the mentors and the chance I was given to represent LIV and share the transformative impact of Web3 technology on music ownership and our future as artists.

Mavi & Troy Taylor

At its core, the 2915 camp focused on education, collaboration and all the in betweens that happen to create a record. Throughout the days spent at the camp, we found ourselves within the walls of multiple highly regarded recording studios engaged in versus-style songwriting competitions (friendly of course) and learning things from each side of the music industry sphere.

The Presentation

A few days into the camp, Troy Taylor and his renowned Troy Taylor University had a presentation planned for us. Between the beautiful weather that day in Manhattan and the amazing food provided by 2915, the good energy of the day was palpable. Fellow camp attendees and music professionals filled the room to hear multiple speakers, including Troy and myself share our knowledge on different topics like production, music licensing, networking and emerging tech.

In my presentation, I shed light on LIV's mission, the future of music ownership, web3 music, and how LIV's workshops on digital collectibles have personally empowered me to create value with my music art and be able to share that with others.

Sound.xyz

I had the honor of introducing the blockchain based music platform Sound. xyz to all new eyes and ears. Sound is a platform that is spearheading a much needed new approach to the music monetization. In stark contrast to conventional platforms such as Spotify, which compensate artists based on the number of streams, Sound. xyz offers an alternative via the blockchain. Over $5,844,518 has been earned by artists from fans on Sound. Sound. xyz allows artists to upload their songs as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). They can then sell or gift them to their fans and even use it to provide rewards. Think of it like Pokémon cards for creatives that lives entirely on the blockchain. This innovative approach reshapes the landscape of music monetization, offering artists a powerful tool to generate revenue, verify fan participation and build the blocks of a devoted fan base.

Admittedly, the concept of Web3 technology and digital collectibles can be daunting for many, trust me I get it. People using AI to mix songs, social platforms changing owners and brand values overnight, expensive digital monkeys and much more chaos that I’m sure has unfolded by the time I finish writing this.

My goal was to dispel the doubt, cut through the veil of unfamiliarity and instill a sense of excitement around this new tech. I also viewed it as an opportunity to remind artists that there are so many ways to create art you love, while creating value at the same time.

I left this retreat with a profound sense of accomplishment and optimism. The experience helped plant seeds within my own songwriting journey but also kindled a fire of excitement among the attendees about the future of digital collectibles in the music industry.

I walked away from this experience with a renewed view on how knowledge is power, education and open dialogue are essential to the creative process, and collaboration can be the cherry on top of it all.

Until next time,

T
